My Princess of Mars Project

I have so far, only roughly layed out a single issue, though I have scripted A Princess of Mars entirely. These roughs have taken a couple different forms, either tradional pencils or rough painted thumbnails, and have already been reworked once or twice. I have no doubt they will be reworked again.

The art was done in a combination of Corel Painter and Adobe Photoshop. Should I decide to actually finish rendering the thing, I have the color palates worked out and the bulk of it would be in Painter.

These are presented for nothing else than your curiosity. In a perfect world I would find someone a lot more talented than me to carry this part of the project. I also plan on reworking the script to include more fleshing out of the Civil War world Carter lived in. Through that, I can perhaps set the table for the otherworldness of Mars, hopfully capturing even half the wonder Burroughs' first readers must have felt.

Issue One

In a nutshell, confederate Civil War veteran John Carter is introduced, and through a series of misfortunes involving a good friend's run in with Apaches, is pulled to Mars through out of body experience. Once there, he meets different kinds of Martians and becomes embroiled in a conflict between the red and green races of the planet. And, of course, falls in love with a Princess.

This first issue covers his introduction and initial travel to Mars. Many of the panels need reworking, so consider these a kind of detailed thumbnails.

I may rework the beginning even more, focusing on Carter's life before he moved to Arizona. I wouldn't have any problem staying on Earth for two issues if it meant a more solid groundwork for his life and personality.
